South Haven Group launches revitalised 73 Northbourne Avenue to Canberra market

Media Release.
Without a doubt, the road everyone is talking about in Canberra today is Northbourne Avenue. As the gateway to Canberra, the Northbourne corridor now epitomises the city Canberra has become; designed, planned and considered. The new light rail is about to further enhance the precinct and drop individuals to their doorstep. Anyone who has not travelled down Northbourne Avenue in the past three years would struggle to recognise it.
One of the prominent buildings in the CBD is 73 Northbourne Avenue which takes pride of place on the corner of Northbourne Avenue and Barry Drive. The asset is owned by Melbourne based property company, South Haven Group. The group acquired the asset back in 2016 as they saw the changes taking place in Canberra. As astute, established and experienced property investors, they saw the rise and revitalisation of Canberra City.
Ian Pratt, South Haven Group’s CEO, stated, “We were very proud and excited to enter the Canberra market in 2016 with a strong desire to create an impact on the office market. Since 1986 South Haven has built a reputation for creating high quality spaces with a strong customer focus and we saw an opportunity to activate our brand and have a positive impact here in Canberra.”
73 Northbourne Avenue was constructed circa 1987. It is a building with solid foundations that is ready for the next phase of its life. The market place is very different today and clients’ needs have changed. People are looking at value in various forms and now consider relationships with their landlords as long-term, meaningful business transactions.
‘Collaboration’ is a business buzz term, yet in a number of respects it is how today’s organisation thrives and stands out as a workplace of choice. These considerations formed part of the design brief that South Haven Group gave to their project consultants who fed this back into the asset we see today. The building has shared facilities that are accessible, building wide.
There are many features that make this property a standout in its class, including a new striking façade that is orientated to the building’s corner frontage, an open plan foyer, a boardroom and numerous meeting spaces on the ground floor. The building is looking to attract Canberra businesses and organisations seeking to occupy a beautiful space within a prime location.
On top of the facilities, South Haven Group wanted to create a space with meaning. As art is the intangible contribution to a building’s brand and culture, they opted for a rotational art space that contributes to the experience of people who work and visit the building. Within the foyer of 73 Northbourne Avenue there will be a six-monthly rotation of artworks. The arrangement is a win/win as it gives the artists exposure and 73 Northbourne Avenue will be a space of interest.
“It’s been a very exciting project as we transform this building to provide high-end amenities and beautiful communal spaces. Our experience and research tell us that quality spaces add value to a business and enhance their success, even improving staff recruitment and retention. I am very proud that South Haven will now have a positive impact in Canberra, not just in the area of commercial property, but also in enabling successful outcomes for its tenants.”
Mr Pratt went on to say, “Canberra is firmly within our business plan and as we go forward we will be looking at similar opportunities within the city.”
